How Food-Grade Silicone Rings for Wood Lids Are Made

At ZGS Glass, we understand that the perfect seal is crucial for preserving freshness in your glassware. This is why our wooden lids feature premium food-grade silicone ring seals. Today, we pull back the curtain to show you the meticulous process behind creating these vital silicone gasket components.

1. Starting with the Best: Raw Material Selection
Our journey begins with top-quality, FDA-approved food-grade silicone rubber. This raw material is specifically chosen for its safety, durability, flexibility, and excellent sealing properties – essential for any kitchenware item designed to keep contents fresh.

2. Forming the Foundation: Compression Milling
The raw silicone compound is fed into a heavy-duty milling machine. Here, powerful rollers compress and flatten the material into a consistent, uniform rectangular sheet. This step ensures the starting point for our silicone ring production has precise thickness and density.

3. Precision Cutting & Pre-forming
The large silicone sheet is then precisely cut into smaller rectangular blanks. Each blank is carefully weighed to meet exact specifications. These weighed blanks are then loaded into cylindrical compression molds. Under significant heat and pressure within the mold, the rectangular blanks are transformed into thick, doughnut-like cylinders – the initial shape of our future silicone gasket.

4. Trimming and Preparation
After molding, the warm silicone cylinders are removed. Skilled technicians meticulously inspect each one, using fine blades to trim away any minor flashing or imperfections around the edges. These pristine cylinders are then carefully stacked, ready for the next critical phase.

5. Slicing the Seal: Creating Individual Rings

The stacked silicone cylinders are mounted onto specialized fixtures on a precision cutting machine. As the fixture rotates, an ultra-sharp blade cleanly slices through the cylinder, transforming it into numerous individual rings of exact, consistent thickness. This is where the silicone ring truly takes its final form.

6. Separation and Inspection
Freshly cut rings can sometimes lightly adhere to each other. They are gently transferred to a separation station, often involving textured surfaces or rollers (like a specialized "sanding board"), where technicians carefully ensure each silicone gasket is completely free and undamaged. Each ring undergoes a visual inspection.

7. Quality Assurance & Packing
Each individual food-grade silicone ring is weighed again to guarantee it meets our stringent quality standards. Rings that pass inspection are then counted and neatly packed into clean, protective bags or boxes, ready to be paired with our wooden lids.

The ZGS Glass Commitment to Quality
